Final Blog Post

The Best and the Worst Aspects of the Internet.

Negative

As I have mentioned in my blog post four and five, the use of internet can do harm to a person in many different areas. It could be from harming ones computer and loss of many important files to complete destruction of the computer hardware. Maybe there is not a lot of important files and documents on the computer, but most of us use social net work cites to keep in touch with many important people and these people put them self out there to the public by uploading and even just liking comments and video shared links.

Lets first look over the computer viruses and malware. Like I mentioned above that in my previous blog I have talked about malware and explained it a little bit. Let us go further into detail a little bit. There is a thing, or should I say attack called Denail of Service (DoS) attack. What DoS attack does is it prevents a a user from connecting and using and accessing information from a server. How this is achieved is when the DoS attacker overloads the server with many "flood" of request and information the host server and network cannot handle the load. A server can only handle a certain amount of  request at one time and if it overflooded by the attacker one cannot access the server.

Now this may not sound that much of a problem but when it is applied to a bigger scale it is a different story. One of the example is the the Anonymous Group's multiple attacks on big corporations and government websites. The attack on Visa.com and MasterCard.com was a big uproar to the community.

As you can see the use of Internet has created this another world of violence around the world where the people do not even need to be present at the location to cause this mass disruption, and it could lead up to loss of millions of dollars in a matter of hours.

Positive

Now lest look at the positive effect of Internet. The use of Internet has revolutionized the way we interact with each other. We are free to say and think what ever we want in our minds, and now with Internet we can express that feeling (almost) freely. Website such as Facebook, MySpace, and Hi5 have connected us with people around the globe and does not fail to keep that relationship strong even though the people may be 15 hour flight away from each other. John Ryan did a very good article on this subject of Relationship Benefits from the Internet.

The anonymity and freedom that the internet gives us can also be a good thing. It gives people an opportunity to speak freely without fear of retribution and gives everyone a voice. It also gives people the opportunity to ‘try out’ different personas and shed their social anxiety which can be a liberating experience. Internet is a place where people are judged only on the quality of their contributions.

Soon governments may take advantage of this open forum and start listening more closely; an age may exist where we all get a say on every decision that affects us, where we act as ‘one mind’ in decisions that affect the general public, but as completely autonomous and free individuals the rest of the time.

Car Lust ds106#5

For this ds106 assignment I decided to do the Car Lust. The objective is to find  a picture of car that I like and talk about a little bit.

This is the new Lexus LFA that was shown in Tokyo Motor Show in October 2009. It is said that Lexus LFA is easily the most powerful car that came out of Japan. Usually an Italian or a German car are one of the top super cars in the world. But this time Japan has taken a big step forward and introduced this car to the public. With a price of whooooping $400,000. Under the Hood there is a 550 horse power V10 engine with 9000 RPM. The first time I saw this car was when Han was riding it on the movie Fast and Furious: Fast Five. When I look at this car it makes me feel like I own the world and it revolves around me.

Ring Tone ds106#3

Creating your own ring tone seemed cool. So I looked up some of my favourite song from 2010 and made a little mix tape. I took the idea from my DJ friend who works at Trump club down at Shibuya. Hope you enjoy.

This was a great experience for me and hope to do it again some time soon.

Triple Troll Attack, GO! ds106#2

Triple Troll Attack, GO! struck my interest when I was looking for an assignment on the site. It seems funny and I spend a lot of time looking for funny images and creative ways to make people laugh. This assignment was fun to do because coming up with 3 different characters and putting them into one picture and having it connect was challenging but fun also because I think I am the only one who gets this joke. If some one else gets it I will be surprised.

The three individual characters I had in mind are Captain Kirk, Spock, and Sheldon Cooper. This outline comes from my favourite TV show series called "The Big Bang Theory". It is my favourite because the jokes in the TV series never gets old and I like all the actors and actresses that play in the series. The Image above is Captain Kirk and quote is from Sheldon Cooper and attributes to Spock.

Google Map Story ds106#1

ds106 has web assignments and one of them is called Google Map Story. The original idea was submitted by a person named David aka Mr.Thimble. I choose this assignment because my father works for the Embassy of Mongolia and the family has followed him around the world for his job. I have been to many places but I choose to pick the best place I have lived and explain a little about the place and why it was so great.

In 2002 my father the government decided to station my father in Ottawa, Canada. I have never heard of the country that time and had no idea what I was in for. If it is a warm country or cold, but I did not care because I was 12. But Ottawa turned out to be a great place, for me the greatest place I have lived so far(don't tell Tokyo tho, hehe).

The high school I went was one of the bigger in the city with almost 2000 students. There is a lot of diversity in Canada and especially in Ottawa. I have made friends from Iran,Egypt,Peru,Bolivia to Somalia Russia and the UK. I am very happy that I still keep very close contact with them e-mailing and video chatting all the time. The memory I have created here is the most cherished memory I have. I had my first girlfriend in here, first fight, first broken bone, first gold medal and the list goes on and on. I still doubt there is a high school better than this school any where in the world, but hey that is only my opinion.

This is the Rideau Canal. The longest Canal in Canada. During the summer people can bring their boats and cruse the canal when ever they want. My friend's father had a boat and we would climb in it all the time and hang out with other friends. I were not allowed to drive it but just being inside a boat was cool enough. The best part of the Canal is during the winter they drain the water just lo enough that is freezes and any one can come and skate on it. My parents bough me my first pair of skates when I was 14. I was probably the happiest kid in the world. On that day I got my skates sharpened and went skating with my friends. It feels like riding the wind then I am skating, even though I look like a clown in all those baggy pants and baggy winter coat.

Over all this is the end of my story telling. I hope you enjoyed it and hope you can visit Ottawa Canada when ever you get the chance, especially in the winter.

Who is Where and Where is Here and Where is Privacy?

Here and There: says google
The other day I searched up a dance studio address on Google and clicked Google map. Then clicked on "Get direction" and as soon as I pressed that button Google automatically found my address, in an instant and gave the directions to the dance studio. At first I did not think much of it, but then after a while when I was on the train I though about it and it scared me a little. Google was able to find the location of my places and exactly where I love in a matter of seconds when there are 7 billion people in the world. This shows how much information about a person's life is out there in the internet where billions of people have access to it.

Then I though about it. Maybe I should decrease the amount of activity and information sharing over the internet, but this has been going on since the very beginning of the 21st century and the amount of internet, Instant Message, E-mail, Social Network cites I have been using and use now practically means I am already out there and I can basically do nothing about it. Even if I were to stop and start from fresh I would have to recontact every person I know all around the world that I changed my e-mail address, YouTube account, g-mail account, Facebook. Have to be re-tagged on photos again, re-added to groups and events. There is just so much information about me out there that I cannot hide my self any more and this same for hundreds of millions people in the world.

Online Tracking
Online Tracking has become another word for tracking browsing habits. What "online tracking" is websites using certain algorithms following what cites you visit, what ads the user clicks and what pages the user likes, to come up with results that match and the user likes, has interest in, and what they might buy. With this next time they access the website again they will have specific ad just on your page that you like or recommend friends and products that you may know or like that had interest in before. What this is saying is this algorithms know you better than you  now yourself, telling you your interest and hobbies.

World Now
All the people living in developed countries could not walk a block with out their phones constantly searching for a faster 3G Internet access so that you are always connected to the Internet. A person with out a phone feels lost doing normal daily routines with out it. We are giving out our information on our cellphones and laptop computer when ever we connect to an unsecure line.

Question for Final: What is a computer IP address?
